Beginner, Intermediate, or Advanced Workout Routine... Which one am I?

This is a question for anyone that is getting ready to put a workout plan together. So let me break it down for you in simple terms.


Beginners are individuals who are either completely new or at least somewhat new to a dedicated and well thought out fitness plan. What that means will vary slightly depending on the present company, but in my opinion, I’d consider a beginner to be anyone who has been weight training for less than 6 months CONSISTANT and DEDICATED weight training. You will also fall into the beginner level if at one time trained consistently but stopped for more than a few months and now are getting back into it.


If you have been weight training consistently and with focused dedication for at least6 months or more, then you fall into the intermediate level.  

At the intermediate level you would have already used some type of beginner fitness program that allowed you to build up at least some base level of strength and muscle. You would have also learned proper form and understanding of your limits and capabilities as it applies to working out. This is the category the majority of the population falls into.


The advanced level would be considered the highest weight training experience level there is. While beginners and intermediates are classified by a combination of how long they’ve been weight training and what type of results they’ve gotten, I classify advanced trainees solely by the results they have achieved. For some people that can take 2, 3, 5 or 10 years. There is really no duration of time that matters here. Whenever your body has improved as much as it can possibly improve, you are considered advanced. This is the category the least number of people fall into. Everyone likes to think they are more advanced than they truly are. That’s just a recipe for disaster 100% of the time.

PLEASE be realistic about your training level!!   

Here is the bottom line! Workout routines are designed for specific experience levels for a reason. If you want the best results possible, use a workout routine that is tailor made for your exact training experience level. If you don't, that's like taking a fast train to the wrong destination.
